Organization of things is important not only for easy retrieval but also for sorting. When you are planning to move, organizing your belongings become even more important so things do not become lost or mixed with other items. While packing, labeling your moving boxes can not only be useful for your packing, but also for transport and unloading as well.
When you get your boxes, sort them out and label them with what will go inside. Some common labels often used go by the room in which the items are found. For example, items such as cookware, food, spoons, forks, knives, and cups can be labeled with “kitchen” since these items are commonly found in the kitchen. This works for any room in the house. For bedrooms, you can simply use the name of the person in which the bedroom belongs, as well as using their name for any other personal items they may have in other parts of the house.
Breakable items should be labeled as fragile in addition to any other labels. Using the kitchen example above, you may have items such as glasses and plates that are highly breakable. These items should have their own box and packed with extra care. After doing so, be sure to label the box or container as fragile in addition to any other labels. Also be sure that the word fragile is used in highly noticeable letters, commonly done with red markers or written large enough where it can be noticed by movers or other people involved in your move.
When your items are moved and you are unloading everything, labels can make the process much faster. Being able to read where a box goes without having to open it up and guess will mean that you can take that container and place it where it needs to go. For fragile items, this means you can place them somewhere in your new home where they will not get damaged while moving the rest of your things around the house. This also means that you can set aside the items that you do not immediately need to worry about, such as items that are meant to go into an attic, basement, garage, tool shed, or any other out of the way location.
When packing and labeling your boxes, be sure to use either a permanent marker or a secure label so that it is easily understood. You do not want to use a label that may fall off the box. Also, using a pencil or ink that can smudge easily is a bad idea since you will want your labels to be easily read and understood.
