What is the worst part of relocation? Do you despise the heavy lifting? How about the travel time? Believe it or not, most people actually loathe the task of packing. As the famous quote goes “The hardest part of any journey is always the first.” What this means that when you are going to pack, the rest of your move is going to seem like it will take a long time and be very hard. Do not fall into this thought pattern. There are some very useful packing tips that can help you get what you need done and make that first step easier.
The first tip is to plan out how everything is going to be moved. While you will want to save as much room as possible for loading up all your belongings, remember that you do not want to overdo your packing. Use good containers and do not overfill them. An overfilled box has an increased chance of breaking, which means your stuff will get scattered and possibly broken. Properly filling and sealing a box not only reduces a package breaking, but also lets you stack boxes up and that saves more room as well.
The next thing to remember is dealing with breakable items. Fragile items require a bit more care than your average item. There are some steps to take to ensure these items are secure. Start by wrapping these items in newspaper or some other type of paper. Doing this protects these items from impacts and reduces the chance that they will be scratched up or broken. Also, use a soft material to line the container that you are going to use for packing fragile goods. This helps in case the container should happen to fall or have something hit it, offering more protection. The last thing you want is for things to get broken when moving.
Finally, you will want to take special care of appliances and items that require wires, hoses, and other sort of connectors. Make sure that you store wires separate from each other to avoid messy tangles and to quickly identify which wires go to which appliance. If possible, try to keep certain connectors with the equipment itself. A fine example of this is to take your washer and dryer hoses and place them inside the appliances themselves. When you reach your destination then you will find it much easier to hook up these appliances than you would if you simply stuffed everything into one place.
