When you are starting to plan out your move, it is the first thing you should do. Make a packing checklist and be sure that you get everything you can think of on that list. There are some basic things you should be aware of when making your list so you can at least get started.

The first item on the agenda would be supplies. You are going to need a few things to get most of the items in your home packed. Boxes are essential to storing the majority of the items in your home as well as important things such as documents, fragile items, and other things. You can obtain boxes and other types of containers from your local market store or from work. Even some friends and family may have storage bins that you can use. You will also want to pick up some tape, labels, tools, and anything else you will need before you start your packing.

You will also want to make note of all the things that will require packing. Go through your home and list how you plan on packing everything. Can all the items in the bathroom be stored in one box, or will they need to be separated? Having a plan for each of your belongings is a must. As you go from room to room, decide how you will want to have everything packed and make notes of it. As you are doing so, also determine what other items you will need in order to pack some of the trickier items.

For the things that cannot simply be put into a box, decide on how you are going to move those items as well. For instance, you may want to take everything out of your dresser drawers before attempting to move a dresser, especially if it is very heavy. Then you may also want to tape the drawers so they do not slide or come out of the dresser as you are moving and transporting it.
